Thermal resistance measurement of fabric
There are three methods available for the measurement of thermal resistance of fabric are (i) Single plate (ii) two plate (iii) Graduated hot plate method All these three methods are suitable for measuring thermal resistance upto 20 mm thick fabric.
Among these three method , the two plat plate method is generally preferred due to accuracy and reproducibility. In two plate method, test sample is placed between heated lower plate and insulated top plate. After 30 minutes of heat flow from underneath side of the lower plate, temperature T1, T2 and T3 are measured and recorded. The thermal resistance of test specimen can be calculated using the following formula :
The thermal resistance of lower plate ( Rs ) and top plate ( Rc ) is known.
