 Clothing & comfort  Convection

 Heat loss or gain by convection process from human body depends upon the surrounding air temperature and air movement.

 Air passing over the skin

 surface not only evaporates moisture but also transfer sensible heat to or from the body.

 The faster the rate of air movement, the more the convective heat loss.

 The larger the body surface area, the greater the rate of heat loss.

(c) Conduction :

 With direct contact of the human body with physical objects such as chair, floor etc conductive heat loss or gain occurs.

 Conduction allows us to loose or gain heat when lying, or sitting on floor or other surfaces.

 Clothing slows down conductive heat loss

 Clothing also acts as insulator
